I was a student of Govt. art college, (than known as Govt. school of Art). It is great to see it has grown to fullest as an art institute to be. I always remember Sir-Sobha Brahma, Kandarpa Sharma, Bikash Bhattacharya sir who taught and given dedicated blessings to me to become a good teacher today as myself.

"I recently visited this college to submit my application form. Unfortunately, my experience with the principal was disappointing. Their attitude was rude and unwelcoming, which left me feeling uncomfortable. I hope the college addresses this issue to ensure a more positive experience for future visitors."

The best place in entire North Eastern region to study Fine arts. One can join the college by clearing the entrance examination held by the college every year. The college provides a bachelor degree in fine arts under Gauhati University.

The Govt. College of Art & Crafts, Guwahati was founded in 1947. A few glimpses of their beautiful green campus are enough to convince anybody that, if there is an environment that could provide consistent inspiration to an artist, this would probably be it. Between the stone walls, undergraduate students absorb the theories of Art History; they create beautiful shapes in the Print Making and Graphic Arts classes; they show their art to the world through the Applied Arts courses. Main Subjects are Sculpture Graphics (Print Making) Painting Applied Art Art History

The School of Art was initially started in a single room in the Don Bosco School at Paanbazar in 1947 by late Jibeswar Baruah. Jibeswar Baruah was the head of the school till 1964. In 1948 the school of art started to receive a recurring grant of Rs. 50.00 per month from the State Government. After few bad patches it moved to a rented house in Panbazar. It was a time when art was almost a taboo for the high or middle-class families to be taken it seriously. Via from Wikipedia
