Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden is a must-visit place in Guwahati, especially with family and friends. The area is large, green, and well spread out, making it perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable visit. The zoo houses a wide variety of animals, including some rare species, along with birds and reptiles. The botanical garden further enhances the experience with diverse plant life and natural surroundings. The entry ticket price is very affordable at ₹30, making it accessible for everyone. Visitors should note that timings may vary during festive days, so it’s better to check in advance. Overall, it’s a great place for nature lovers, children, and anyone looking to spend quality time while learning about wildlife and plants.

This place is not well maintained. The animals are kept in very confined enclosures, and the cage for the black panther, in particular, felt extremely small. The area also has a strong unpleasant smell, which affects the overall experience. The only positive aspect for me was seeing a few animals I hadn’t seen before, including a black panther, a white-colored deer/blackbuck, and an ostrich. If you are from Assam, you may consider visiting once. However, if you are a tourist who has already visited other zoos and has limited time, this place may not feel worth the time. Battery-operated vehicles are available, but given the small size of the zoo, they are not really necessary. Entry Ticket: ₹33 Battery-Operated Vehicle: ₹50

The place is quite big and green – the botanical garden part feels peaceful with all the tall trees, flowers, and medicinal plants. It's a good mix of zoo and garden, which makes it different from regular zoos. We saw tigers, leopards, hippos, lots of birds, snakes, and deer – the enclosures look spacious for many animals, and they seemed well-fed. One-horned rhino was missing that day though, which was a bit disappointing since Assam is famous for them.

The zoo boasts an impressive array of animal species, offering a wonderful experience for visitors. It is delightful to see that construction work is underway. This expansion promises even more spacious and enriching habitats for the animals. Entry ticket 33 rs bought online too.

I visited Assam State Zoo on a weekend in December. I expected the offline ticketing experience to be smooth, but I was a bit disappointed at the counter due to multiple queues, which took around 10–15 minutes to get tickets and enter. However, what was beyond my expectation was the golf cart facility inside the zoo. They have around seven major spots, and you can easily visit them using the golf cart at a very nominal cost. The animal sightings and views were excellent—I could see tiger, leopard, lion, bear, and of course the one-horned rhino, the pride and state animal of Assam. Overall, it’s a great experience, especially for kids, who will definitely enjoy it—and adults will too.

Very beautiful and old zoo in Guwahati. The ticket station was a noisy and there was a lot of construction going on actively. It take approximately 2 to 3 hours to explore the complete zoo and there are a lot of animals to observe. Also the reptile house was mostly empty but there were only snakes and a lot of them were asleep. Because of construction very few animals were not visible and were facing the other side.

A must-visit spot in Guwahati, especially if you want to see the famous One-Horned Rhino and Royal Bengal Tigers up close. The zoo is spread over a massive area with plenty of greenery, making it feel like a walk through a forest rather than just a zoo. Pros: Biodiversity: Great collection of animals, including Hoolock Gibbons, Himalayan Black Bears, and Zebras. Price: Very affordable entry fee (around ₹30). Atmosphere: It’s located inside the Hengrabari Reserve Forest, so the air is fresh and the environment is peaceful. Cons: Walking: It is a lot of walking on hilly terrain. If you are with elderly people or kids, definitely try to book the battery-operated golf carts early. Maintenance: Some enclosures look a bit old and could use renovation. Tip: They have a strict plastic-free zone policy. You usually have to deposit money for your water bottles at the gate, which you get back upon exit if you show the bottle. Don't throw away your bottle inside!"
