Fancy Bazaar

Fancy Bazaar is a locality in Guwahati, surrounded by localities of Pan Bazaar, Lakhtokia with nearest airport at Borjhar and Railway Station at Paltan Bazaar. It is known as the business hub of Northeast region. It derives its name from the Jail and gallows for hanging (phansi) that was situated in this area—the municipal records still calls it Phansi bazaar. Fancy Bazaar is busy commercial area as central location of various commercial enterprises.

Price is good not too high but you have to Bargain everything if you can. It may save your money which you can use for fooding and extra. This is my first time visit in Fancy Bajar and also first time in Guwahti but absolutely this market is good. Specially for the clothes. I recommend this market if you want to purchase some clothes and daily wear clothes.

Market place in the commercial heart of the city Fancy Bazar got its name I understand from the word "Phasi" which means to hand in the local language. It was also home to the central jail - you will see its tall imposing walls, the jail has now been transferred out and the area sometimes used as a parking bay. Like any other Indian main market places, Fancy Bazaar has a huge quantity of goods ranging from textiles, ready-made clothes jewellery,art & crafts, fruits & vegetables, eateries, consumers goods, electronics, software, hardware etc. Bargaining is allowed and can land you a good deal. Lots of shops do wholesale and retail. With many street vendors, lanes lanes and sub lanes - it can be a little confusing, watch your step cause its not the cleanest of markets but the variety available along with the warm nature and attitude of the people,makes up for a few negatives like inadequate parking.

Fancy Bazar!!!! Should I need to describe more? I bet it's the favourite shopping destination of all ranging from the old to young, from rich to poor. Oh, the crowd? Actually, the never ending crowd. You can go on a random day and still get the crowd there. Go before some festival and you'll get more crowd. It's a market where you can get anything you wish for, from lounge wear to party wear. From jewelry to shoes to home decor. You name it and they have it.

Here , you can buy anything at a cheaper price. Very good market. The place is very crowded and there's a possibility of losing your personal things if you don't keep it safely.

Top cheap shopping destination in Guwahati that offers clothing, footwear, accessories, home decors etc. You need to always bargain below 50% of the said price. It is usually very crowded so take good care of your pockets/purses. Make sure you do good quality check before buying any stuff. The market is busy upto 8 PM after which the stalls start to shut.
