MUST VISIT for picking up souvenirs from Guwahati, Assam... All hand-made bamboo items, metal creations, large store with wide variety of gifts, keepsakes!

A well run and inexpensively priced, weaver society that sells a lot of weaves from different tribes of North East. Easy to pay fixed prices, which are inexpensive by any standards. The next door showroom has a lot of metal and brass artefacts. Service levels are low and should be improved. The lady attending on us finally turned up at 11 AM! I was informed coolly that the card machine was broken. Definitely inconvenient as I had to run next door to ATM and square off the transactions.

Jagaran - A Showroom of Artfed is located at GNB Road, Ambari, Opp to AGP State Office, Guwahati, Assam - 781001.. This is a very big organization of Weavers & Artists Co-operative Society, nd was established on 1976.. They started to manage nd collect SKILLS, with the help of which Jagaran is now a very well-known Artfed/Handloom brand of Assam/ Northeast/India.. The have showrooms all through out the State nd Country followed by cities like New Delhi, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata nd Indore.. Now this showroom that we are talking about is very big nd divided into 3 parts.. One part is the one where fabrics like Pat, Muga, Guna, Khadi, Silk, Traditional dresses of all the tribes of NorthEastrn region, Shawls, nd most importantly the pride of Assamese - Gamusa are being showcased along with wooden showpiece nd crafts.. The second part displays items prepared from bamboos, cane, jute like - JAPI, lamp, keychain, chair, sofa set, hat's, handbags, dolla, khorahi, painting, cups, dhari, tool, murha, small gift items etc etc.. This part of the store is fully packed with hundreds types of items, which is not easy to list here.. The third part is a small one with items made from Kah, Pitol, like - Horai, Hophura, Ghoti, Thal, Bati, Glass, Prize, Tea nd Sauce pan, Samus, etc etc.. A complete tour of the Weaver nd Artist society is beautifully displayed here@JAGARAN.. The price may be a bit high with some items, but we should keep it apart as many of the families are struggling up their livelihood only through this society.. Infact we should admire nd respect their hardwork, as only for people like this our Tradition, Culture, Prides are still alive nd getting a place all over 🇮🇳.. RB...

It is a good place to collect mementos of your trip to Shillong. Since it is a government store, prices are good enough. However most of the time they do not accept payment through card so ensure that you carry enough cash. Stock of products is good.

A very good initiative by Assam government promoting local handicrafts and other products at a very affordable rate.
