Sri Sri Chamoguri Satra in Majuli is a mesmerizing destination renowned for its exceptional tradition of mukha sculpture, a unique craft that has been passed down for generations. Nestled in the serene landscape of Majuli, the world’s largest river island, the Satra stands as a testament to the island's rich cultural heritage. The art of mukha sculpture, particularly mask-making, is the soul of Samoguri Satra. These handcrafted masks, made from bamboo, clay, and cloth, are not just artifacts but integral to the vibrant cultural performances, especially during the Raas festival. The precision, detail, and creativity that go into each mask are remarkable. Every mask tells a story, bringing mythological characters to life with vivid expression and intricate design. Visitors to the Satra are treated to live demonstrations of this ancient craft, allowing a deep connection to the art and its spiritual significance. The peaceful ambiance of the Satra, combined with the artistic mastery of the monks, leaves a lasting impression on anyone who steps foot into this cultural haven.
