Umachal Yogashram

“Umachal” one of the oldest Ashrama located at the Nilachal Hill of Guwahati. The ashrama was setup by Maharshi Swami Shivanand (Earlier known as Sri Sri Shashi Bhushan Mukhyopadhya) on 28thDecember of 1929. There are two link road to reach the Ashrama on is from Kalipur & one is from the main road of Maa Kamakhya Temple above the Bagala Temple. The Umachal Ashrama was setup to teach Yoga in a simple way for the common people and later on the Ashrama introduced one of the oldest Yoga college “Umachal Yogic Mahavidyalaya” offring four basic courses 1. Yoga Therapist Course (4Years), 2. Yoga Diploma Course (15 Months) 3. Yoga Certificate Course (6 months) 4. Yoga Certificate Course (1months). The college became very popular not only in the country but also in the international level. So many students from used to came to learn Yoga on that days. Swamiji not only established the Yogic College but also established a “Yogic Hospital” with capacity of 50 beds with a aim to cure all types of diseases through Yoga and offer a permanent cure to the patients instead of costly harmful modern medical treatments. The hospital is recognised by the All India Yoga & Nature Cure Council, Govt. of India. The Umachal Yogashram & Yogic Hospital turned into a formal research centre in 1972 with the help of All India Yoga & Nature Cure Council, Govt. of India. Lots of research work has been completed since 1972 on scientific Yoga research and cure of diseases. The research centre is equipped with a modern laboratory for Yoga Research. His divine Srimat Swami Shivanavda Saraswati Maharaj has published “Yogic Therapy”, “Brahmacharya for boys & girls”, “Yogic Bayam for students”, “Arrange Right Diet for Human Being”, “Yoga Science”, “Build New India and New World”, “Principle of Diet”, “Yoga Se Rog Newaran”, “Khadyaniti aur Sishu Palan Bidhi” and many more research work on Food, Yoga Science, disease cure through Yoga & goo  d food etc. In the central Math-Shivananda Math, Kamakhya, Guwahati-10, the Yoga Ashrama has Research Department on Yoga and Food. The centre is a member of Yoga Research Board conducted by Health Ministry, Central Govt. of India. The Vedas, the oldest literature of the world, contail Yoga systems; so Yoga-culture is very ancient. Yoga is the highest physical science. Yoga is the pshycological science and Yoga is the highest spiritual science. So in ancient India Yoga was studied and cultured by all. The Yoga is confined in India so long 3 systems of Yoga developed in India- Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga and Vedic Yoga. If human society practices Hatha-Yoga, then they shall be able to drive away all kinds of disease from human society; at wil they shall be able to enjoy the life of 125 years or more without disease, without senility. The Umachal Yogic Ashrama was passed through various struggle throughout its long journey of 89 years. Due to various factor the ashrama was forced to slow down the pace but still running in a pleasure way. Our group “JAMBA- a group of students of Gauhati University working on social transformation and Nature Conservation” has recently tied up with the holy Yogic Ashrama and started to revive the glory of the Ashrama. Today a group of JAMBA planted around 30 fruit plants and conducted a cleanliness drive in the campus to make it clean. We are going to start various courses on Yoga with the help of the Ashrama from September,2018 and going to revive the lost glory with a 7days residential Yoga Workshop in the first half of the September.

A beautiful yogashram,but no one go there,place of no noise,you can see the Brahmaputra river from the top,you can buy books on yoga,even you can go Kamakhya temple from there(short-cut).

I gathered very thrilling experience and both the Saint namely Vishnu Maharaj ji & Madhav Maharaj ji are highly educated and very very humble

The best Yoga Ashram on nilachal hills. They offer a Diploma course (D.Y.Ed.) Also the best place for meditation and bhakti in the lap of nature .

Most friendly..home stay related location, view, awesome....rooms are well decorated.. Staff Behavier are homely 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
