Amazing Cultural Journey Through North-East Heritage! This museum is one of the best places to learn about the rich, diverse cultures of Northeast India. The building itself is striking — a unique seven-storey hexagonal structure with 17 thoughtfully arranged galleries that showcase traditional clothing, musical instruments, tools, art, customs, and more from the indigenous tribes of the region. Highlights include: • Well-curated exhibits that tell stories about tribal life, agriculture, language, religion, music and crafts. • A Skywalk on the top floor with panoramic views of Shillong — perfect for photos and taking in the scenery. • Helpful staff and clean facilities make the visit comfortable. It takes about 2–3 hours to explore properly, so go with time to spare. There’s also a small shop with local handicrafts if you want a memorable souvenir. Tips: • Go early on a weekday to avoid crowds. • Photography inside will require an extra fee of Rs. 100 An excellent stop for culture lovers, students, families, and first-time visitors to Shillong. Highly recommended! 🙌

The Don Bosco museum located in Shillong is a unique institute that has very well documented the various aspects of the tribes of the North East. The display is very organised and creative. They have the traditional costumes, the different types of houses, jewellery, musical instruments and so on. The Museum has many floors and each gallery is well labeled. The rooftop is accessible and offers a great view of the city especially at sunset. They also have a small cafeteria where you can have tea and some snacks.

It is likely to be as Asia's largest museum with showing many different cultures specially on northeast INDIA, there are 7 storey with appox 16 gallery having different aspects like local painting, ornaments, living cultures, traditions, rich heritage, houses, food, hunting and many more. A special sky walk is made on the Seventh floor from which you can see almost 360° view of Shilong. For photography you need to buy an extra pass for an additional cost but it is worth to buy that, there is inhouse cafeteria, very clean toilets and a fresh drinking water on alternate floors. If you are loves art and culture then you could spend more than 3-4 hrs.

A really well organised museum showcasing the North East...it's people, ecology, their past and also the strides and advances they have made. The museum uses tech to great effect and makes it easy for the visitor to go around without any hassle. They have a small cafe for coffee and little nibbles. There is a gift shop also selling products of the area, handicrafts etc.

Great museum, very well managed. For clicking photos we had to pay Rs. 100 per phone (this is optional though, if you don’t want to click photos) - after paying 100 they give you an ID card that you are supposed to wear around your neck to be allowed to click photos. Most people want to click photos at the roof gallery, however in my opinion it was very underwhelming, you can probably skip paying for the phone and just enjoy the knowledge shared in the museum.

Hands down one of the best museums in North East India! The 7-story building is packed with incredible details about the indigenous cultures of the Seven Sisters states. Each gallery is unique—from the weapons and musical instruments to the daily life exhibits. Highlights: The Skywalk: The view from the top is breathtaking! You get a 360-degree panoramic view of Shillong. The Galleries: The wax models and artifacts are very well preserved. Facilities: The place is extremely clean and well-maintained. Tips: Set aside at least 2–3 hours; there is a lot to see. There is an entry fee (around ₹100 for Indian adults) and an extra charge if you want to use your mobile camera, but it's worth it. Don't miss the small souvenir shop on the ground floor!
