If you grew up in Guwahati, chances are at least one of your childhood birthday cakes or certainly their iconic cookies came from this legendary spot. Shaikh Brothers is more than just a bakery; it is a heritage landmark that has watched the city and its people evolve since 1885. Even today, it outshines modern competitors with its consistent quality and unmistakable nostalgic charm. After nearly a decade away, I finally returned to the city. Here is what I tried: Fruit Cake (4.5/5): Still holds that signature soft, moist, and delicious taste. Kesar Phirni (4.8/5): Absolutely delightful and a must-try. Sugar-free Biscuits (4/5): A solid, guilt-free option. Naan Khatai (3/5): Good, but perhaps overshadowed by the others. The manual token-based ordering system can lead to long wait times, especially when it’s crowded. However, I appreciate that they’ve kept this vintage system alive. it’s part of what keeps the soul of the place intact.

I absolutely love their uncut breat, and the cream puff, they aren't too costly but right on the price. It would've been wonderful if there was a place to sit, like a small cafe but I don't mind this set up as well. Their cakes aren't costly, have the desi twist, not too gourmet but affectively basic with a mouth watering taste.

This 150 years old bakery shop of Guwahati is still maintaining its quality and definitely taste of all the items is the best. Their special biscuit that they fry in ghee, is my favorite ❤️, If I live in Guwahati I will visit this place everyday.

Earlier, the food from this shop used to taste much better. Recently, the prices of almost all food items have been increased, but there is no noticeable improvement or newness in the taste. Overall, the taste feels average. The coffee here tastes really good and is worth trying. However, I would not recommend the milk tea, as it tastes watery and has an overpowering cardamom flavor, which affects the overall taste of the tea. If the shop improves the taste of its food and tea, the overall experience would be much better. Must try the coffee.

Shaikh brothers is the most oldest bakery shop in Guwahati. And their cakes, cookies and bake items are really tasty and worth trying. I loved their fruit cake which is tasty. I attached photos as well

First off, the bakery items are reasonably priced and pretty decent. That's the ONLY POSITIVE about this place. The service is slow, the ambience is chaotic, and the staff are discourteous and impatient. The antiquated system of issuing paper slips is frustrating. One has to scream his order, get a handwritten slip of paper from the guy, navigate the crowds to the payment area where a decrepit old gentleman will take your money and bang a "PAID ' rubber on the slip and hand it back. One has to then push and shove through the crowd back to the original counter and retrieve his goods after surrendering the paper slip. There appears to be no system of issuing a receipt ( is this legal?) for the goods..or maybe they only do it when they feel like it! This is a system that has survived the British Raj...and I don't mean that as a compliment! Overall, NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE, from start to finish! I wonder how long the management is going to persist with this 19th century management style of catering to the hordes... Visit only if you love the ambience of a busy fish market packed tightly inside a sardine can !

This bakery is the OG nostalgic rush. Ever since my father used to bring home baked goods from here whenever he visited Panbazar during my childhood (90s) and throughout the time I had been a student of Cotton in the 2000s and even today...I had always been a "Top Fan" of this place. My evergreen favourites are Pan cake & Egg patties, and would never fail to buy them everytime I visit.

Shaikh Brothers is a well-regarded bakery with a rich history dating back to 1885. It is known for its nostalgic value among locals, offering a variety of baked goods such as cakes, cookies, and pastries. Its highlight the consistency in taste and quality over the years. It is a beloved spot for both its historical significance and delicious offerings.
