Statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan

The commander general of Assam, the great freedom fighter, Bir Lachit Borphukan barricaded the river in one night to prevent mughals from invading the territory and thus, is honored by this magnificent statue in the heart of the city in the river bank. Pride of our glorious state. His famous quote, Land is greater than my uncle, still resonates among the citizens.

Was pleasantly suprised to learn about this great Ahom General when I visited Guwahati, the statue does justice to the great man!

Around statue near Bhramputra river, very dirty place with bad odour. Statues worshiped during occassion are lying carelessly without proper disposal. Lot of construction work of bridge connecting IIT and Guwahati city is under progress.

Brahmaputra Carnival time. A huge carnival mela takes place in this place. Mostly for 4 months. Food, shops and all types of entertainment are present.

No other state has the potential like Assam has in terms tourism. Government has to be more aggressive in terms policy implementation and beautification. Public has made this place "Dustbin" and you can not even stand a second without covering your nose at this place.

The place is very dirty. People just throw garbage everywhere. It's good a good view though. Great place to see the sunset. Lachit Borphukan is a symbol of pride in the state of Assam and the Assamese community due to his 1671 victory against the Mughals in the Battle of Saraighat. The statue is of him leading troops into battle but they've got him facing the wrong way. The Mughal army actually attacked from the northern banks of the Bramhaputra and he should be facing that way instead of towards Guwahati.
