Our trip on the Brahmaputra River was completely enhanced by travelling with Assam Bengal Navigation. We had a fabulous trip on a beautiful boat. The crew were professional, so helpful, informative and friendly - we could not have asked for more. The facilities were exceptional, the side tours varied and interesting and the catering was superb- both Indian and International cuisines. Having also sailed on the Ganges last year with ABN we look forward to another chance to sail on different legs of both rivers.

We just returned to the USA after a river cruise on the Brahmaputra River on the Silk and Rhino tour. We had an exceptional trip. The ship we travelled on had 16 guests. The rooms were clean, had wonderful views and adequate space to make for a very comfortable journey. The food was excellent with a good assortment of choices. We had just finished a tour of the golden triangle, Shimla and Ranthambore National park and wanted to see rural India and Kaziranga National Park. Our cruise manager, Romeet Kashyap, has a staff of dedicated, kind and enthusiastic workers. He has chosen and trained exceptional local people. We had a daily experience, visiting villages or taking a safari, along with peaceful cruising spotting bird life and local fishermen. Every detail was attended to. Thank you for this unforgettable journey.

Have you read the story in the Smithsonian Magazine, September/October 2025 issue, about a trip up the Hooghly River with Assam Bengal Navigation? If you're visiting this location after reading it, like this post, and let me know in the comments what connections or inspirations brought you here!

I travelled to Assam with Assam Bengal Navigation on ABN Charaidew and was left spellbound by the region. It's my favourite part of India and draws many similarities with Southeast India (another amazing part of the world). I felt at home on ABN's ship and the crew can't be praised enough. We were there during Holi (Indian festival of colours) and had a special time interacting with the village children on this trip. The safaris into Kaziranga were thrilling in every sense, and Diphlu River Lodge (I believe ABN owns this??) was a class apart from any accommodation I've stayed in.

A wonderful experience The Hooghly Downriver cruise was a great combination of exploration, explanation and relaxation on the beautifully appointed ABN Rajmahal. The standard of accommodation and food was excellent, with deliciously varied meals. The daily onshore visits were well chosen, perfectly organised and well guided, and balanced with time to relax on the sundeck. We had a very knowledgeable and interesting guide and it was clear that the company has built good relationships with the villages and towns we visited. I appreciated the kindness and care of all the staff on the boat which seemed to come from the heart. The beauty of this cruise was, for me, underpinned by the philosophy of the company combining philanthropy and respect for the environment we passed through.

My wife and I travelled with ABN on the Brahmaputra Maximum 10-night cruise 23rd April – 3rd May 2024. This was our 3rd cruise with ABN and our second on the Brahmaputra River. One might ask why did we go on this tour in consecutive years. Well, you can read all you like about the Brahmaputra River and it will not go anywhere near matching actually seeing and travelling on it. It is said that the river changes constantly and we can vouch for that. Some examples are: - When we reached the embarkation point for the cruise, I enquired if this was the same site as last year. This was because the Charaidew II was so much closer to the shore than the previous year. I was assured it was Neamati Ghat, the same site as the previous year, however some 100 plus metres of sand had been lost in 12 months. - The sandbank where the BBQ was held last year had now disappeared. - We were also informed that one island had lost some 200-300 metres of sand over the year -wow. Once again ABN and the crew of the Charaidew II lived up to and exceeded all expectations. ABN embrace an eco-friendly management. Cruise Manager Pratik Mazumder was always visible and helpful. It was very pleasing that all the crew we encountered had good English which for us made the cruise even more enjoyable. All the crew were great but cannot be named individually. However Mohan Borah, the guide, is a standout and is both knowledgeable and personable. The naturalist, known as Deep, was also knowledgeable and a very very funny guy. All the kitchen and serving staff must have gone to bed each night with sore faces as they smiled so much – especially the two ladies Dahrain and Katine. Most of the tours were the same as last year however we visited 3 different villages this time around. It is always good to visit the villages, mix with the locals, especially the kids, and to see how they live. Once again, my wife and I totally enjoyed our cruise and would have no trouble in recommending it to anyone.
