The Sri Sri Shukreshwar Devalaya, located in the heart of Pan Bazaar, Guwahati, is one of Assam's most revered spiritual sites. Perched atop the Itakhuli hill on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It dates back to the 18th century, established by the Ahom King Pramatta Singha. The temple is particularly famous for housing one of the largest Shiva Lingas in India, carved from a single stone. Visitors are often drawn not just by the religious significance, but by the tranquil atmosphere. The long flight of stone steps leading down to the river provides a breathtaking view of the sunset over the Brahmaputra, making it a popular spot for both devotees and photographers Note for Visitors: The temple becomes exceptionally crowded during the festival of Maha Shivaratri, when thousands of devotees gather to offer milk and prayers to the deity.

The Sukreshwar Temple, gracefully situated on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra in Guwahati, is one of the city’s most serene and spiritually uplifting destinations. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple holds a special place in the hearts of devotees, not only for its sacred importance but also for its breathtaking natural surroundings. The moment one reaches the Sukreshwar Ghat, the view of the river stretching endlessly across the horizon creates a sense of calm that beautifully complements the spiritual essence of the temple. The temple structure itself has a quiet, dignified presence. Its traditional Assamese architectural features—simple yet elegant—enhance the overall ambience. Inside the sanctum, the Shiva lingam is worshipped with deep devotion, and the rituals conducted by the priests are sincere and welcoming for both regular devotees and first-time visitors. The peaceful environment allows one to sit, meditate, or simply absorb the sacred stillness that fills the temple premises. One of the highlights of visiting Sukreshwar Temple is spending time at the adjacent ghat. The stone steps leading down to the river are a favorite spot for evening walks, photography, or watching the sunset. As the golden light reflects off the water and boats glide slowly across the river, the entire surroundings take on an almost ethereal beauty. Festivals like Mahashivaratri bring an added vibrancy to the temple, with lamps, chants, and gatherings creating a lively yet devotional atmosphere. The cleanliness of the area and the respectful behavior of the temple staff further enhance the experience. Overall, the Sukreshwar Temple offers a rare combination of spirituality, history, and natural charm. It is a place where one can connect deeply—with the divine, with nature, and with oneself. Whether visited for worship or simply to enjoy the serenity of the Brahmaputra, the temple leaves every visitor with a sense of peace and quiet fulfillment.

The historic Ahom era temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located on Itakhuli Hillock, Guwahati, and was built by Ahom king Pramatta Singha in 1744. Despite being in a busy area, it offers a peaceful environment and a mesmerizing view of the Brahmaputra.Attended a lovely rice ceremony at Hukrswar Dewalay’s Hall No. 2 — such a spacious and well-managed venue❤️A spiritually uplifting temple, but often extremely crowded, especially during peak hours. The heavy rush can make the experience overwhelming at times. Better crowd management and streamlined arrangements would go a long way in improving the overall experience for devotees. This historic Ahom era temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located on top of the Itakhuli Hillock on the bank of the Brahmaputra in Guwahati. This temple was built by Ahom king Pramatta Singha in 1744.Though located in one of the busiest locations of Guwahati, it offers a peaceful and serene environment. The view of the majestic Brahmaputra from this spot is really mesmerizing. It's a place of devotion, beside river Brahmaputra.
